Gothic Lockpick Sequences: How L/R Chest Codes Work

Classic Gothic lockpicking is a sequence puzzle

In classic Gothic 1 and Gothic 2, many chests use a fixed left/right code. You press the correct L or R direction at each step. A wrong move can reset the attempt, and in some cases it can break a lockpick.

That makes the real problem simple: find or record the sequence, then rehearse it before spending more lockpicks.

Use the solver as a memory pad

Open the main Gothic Lockpick Solver, choose a preset chest, or build your own custom code with Add L and Add R. The active sequence is shown as large chips, so you can read it quickly without scanning a long walkthrough paragraph.

The built-in preset list is intentionally conservative: it focuses on public Gothic II walkthrough/forum codes that are easy to verify, while Gothic I and modded runs are best handled through the custom sequence field.

When you want to practice, press the large L and R buttons in order. The attempt log marks each move as correct or wrong, and the reset button lets you drill the code again.

Versions and mods can change codes

Treat the preset list as a quick fan-reference starter, not as an official database. Translations, patches, mods, or different Gothic editions can change individual locks. If a code does not match your game, paste your own sequence into the custom field and use the same practice workflow.

Not the Remake plate system

The Gothic 1 Remake uses a newer plate-style lockpicking puzzle. This tool is focused on the classic Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 L/R minigame. If you are playing the Remake, check whether your current lock uses the Remake plate mechanic before relying on a classic sequence.

No game assets are used

This is an unofficial fan utility. It uses plain text, buttons, and abstract UI components only. It does not include Gothic art, logos, sounds, screenshots, or extracted game files.
